"The role of the Psalmist and Minstrel is weighty, and must not be trivialized by the Church in the end-times." — K.D. Anderholm

Sometime after the day of Pentecost and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, a Council in Jerusalem was held to discuss the matter of the Gentiles having to be circumcised according to the law of Moses. This was a hotly debated issue. But it’s interesting to note that Peter in this meeting discerned from the Old Testament a passage foretelling the time when the tabernacle of David would be restored again to the earth; not to the Jews, but to the Gentiles.

In the book of Acts chapter 15:14-17 we read:

“Simeon (Peter) hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. And to this agree the words of the prophets; AS IT IS WRITTEN, AFTER THIS I WILL RETURN, AND WILL RESTORE THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID, WHICH IS FALLEN DOWN; AND I WILL BUILD AGAIN THE RUINS THEREOF, AND I WILL SET IT UP: THAT THE RESIDUE OF MEN MIGHT SEEK AFTER THE LORD, AND ALL THE GENTILES, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. (Act 15:14-17)

So, what was so significant about this tabernacle that David built? First Chronicles 6:31-32 gives us some insight:

And these are they whom David SET OVER the service of song (music) in the house of the LORD, after that the ark had rest. And they MINISTERED before the dwelling place of the tabernacle of the congregation with singing, (1Ch 6:31-32)

David’s tabernacle was filled with singers and musicians who MINISTERED before the Lord constantly. Notice says that the Psalmists and Minstrels MINISTERED TO THE LORD. Here we see the Scriptures call Psalmists and Minstrels MINISTERS, not simply helpers in the church. These two MINISTRIES are to stand tall alongside the ministries of the apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher in their honor and significance. They play a governing role to govern the singers and musicians as they lead the congregation into God’s glory.

So what does this mean for us today? It means just as the apostle, prophet, evangelist pastor and teacher were restored to the Church according to the Scripture, it also means that the psalmist and the minstrel are being restored to the church by the Holy Spirit according to the Scripture as well.

There’s no denying it spiritually, Psalmists and Minstrels play a MINISTRY role in the church. They are leadership gifts who lead the congregation and set the platform for each of the fivefold ministry gifts to properly minister to the body of Christ.

“…and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive UNTIL THE TIMES OF RESTORATION OF ALL THINGS, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. (Acts 3:20-22) New King James Version (NKJV)

Once God restores something to the church, it cannot be considered a small and insignificant thing. It is something of weighty importance that should never be relegated to a lower level of significance than it deserves. Psalmists and Minstrels are not simply helpers in the body of Christ. They are ministers in EVERY sense of the word.

Let's start viewing them in this way and giving them the honor they deserve. They are highly honored ministers in the eyes of the Lord and they should no longer be disrespected, downplayed or trivialized by men.

They should be held to the same level of conduct and accountability required for any ministry role in the Body of Christ.

Yours for the full restoration and revival of all things,
