Antioch — Speedy as A Chariot (Part One)

The church at Jerusalem, headed by the apostle James, was fashioned after a pattern to reach the Jewish people with the gospel of Christ. The church at Antioch however was a pattern revealed by God to reach the gentiles in a "speedy' fashion.

According to Hitchcock's Dictionary of Bible Names, the name "Antioch” literally means, "speedy as a chariot." In Bible times, a horse-led chariot was the fastest mode of transportation on earth. For angelic messengers, chariots are still the number-one choice of transport even today; taking into consideration that in the heavenly realms, God's chariots are able to move faster than the speed of light! (Ps 68:17; 2 Kings 2:11; 2 Kings 6:17; 1 Jon 1:5) In the book of Habakkuk, the Lord's chariots are referred to as "chariots of salvation."

"...For You ride on horses, Your chariots of salvation." (Hab 3:8)

It's no wonder the church that was founded in the city of Antioch eventually became the model for all international church growth! The Holy Spirit was revealing to us a pattern — a pattern for all of God's people everywhere to follow — a pattern which even today contains within it the power to accelerate the spread of the gospel throughout the whole earth! The Antioch pattern is a speedy chariot indeed! It will not only accelerate the maturation process of God's people, it will also accelerate or "hasten" the coming of the Lord! (2 Pet 3:12)

Follow along as we delve into the Antioch Pattern in the days ahead.

We as leaders must understand this pattern and begin to build our churches and ministries after this revolutionary pattern to be prepared for what God is planning to do in the earth in the days ahead!
